Safiya Khalil is a chemical engineer passionate about crafting advanced materials with maximum efficiency. She specializes in manipulating materials at the nanoscale and precisely controlling their properties and assemblies across scales, from the molecular to the macroscopic. In her lab at NYU Abu Dhabi, advanced tools such as artificial intelligence, high-throughput synthesis, and automation are leveraged to accelerate the discovery of new materials and rigorously assess their performance in functional devices. Before joining the faculty at NYU Abu Dhabi, Safiya was a Ministry of Education Fellow from the UAE at Rice University, where she completed her Ph.D. Her research there focused on advancing the synthesis, scalability, and processability of Covalent Organic Frameworks. Originally from Abu Dhabi, Safiya enjoys horse riding, swimming, and resistance training outside the lab.
