Safiya Khalil Alhashmi is a chemical engineer with a strong interest in manipulating materials at the nanoscale and controlling their properties and assemblies across multiple scales, from the molecular to the macroscopic level. Before joining the faculty at NYU Abu Dhabi, Safiya was a Ministry of Education Fellow from the UAE at Rice University, where she completed her Ph.D. under the supervision of Rafael Verduzco. Her research there focused on advancing the synthesis, scalability, and processability of two-dimensional polymers. Originally from Abu Dhabi, Safiya enjoys horse riding, swimming, and resistance training outside of the lab.
